At first glance, SBTRKT is kind of terrifying. Running into a dude wearing a tiki mask during daylight probably means you’re about to get sacrificed in some sort of sacred ritual that average humans aren’t normally supposed to bear witness to. In the case of Lollapalooza, the ritual will be dubstep and everyone within earshot will be a willing participant.
If dubstep isn’t something you like with your morning coffee, your appreciation of SBTRKT will end with Aaron Jerome’s very cool mask and the photographs that follow these words. SBTRKT might trade thumping bass for throbbing dungeon funk, but there’s still the very real possibility of a migraine or spontaneous aneurism.
If you’re one of the devoted, the brave or the very fucked up, it’s a totally different story. Track to track, beat to beat, his sets have a flow like liquid hot magma that set the crowd on fire – in the best way possible.
